A Smoother, Safer Liposuction: The VASER® System By Oren Zvi Lerman, M.D. on March 10, 2015

A woman touching her soft, smooth legs after VASER® liposuctionThese days, high definition is all the rage. You enjoy high definition picture and sound on your home theater; you take high definition photos with your smartphone; you can even listen to high definition music on your laptop. So why not enjoy the benefits of high definition liposuction, too?

At the plastic surgery practice of Oren Z. Lerman, MD in Manhattan, VASER® liposuction allows you to do precisely that. An acronym for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, VASER® liposuction uses safe sound waves to gently loosen fat, providing a safer, more effective alternative to conventional liposuction methods. You will emerge from surgery looking slimmer, trimmer, and healthier, with a dramatically lower risk of post-operational complications and side effects.

Are you a good candidate for VASER® liposuction? Dr. Lerman would welcome the opportunity to meet with you at his state-of-the-art office and evaluate your candidacy at your earliest convenience. We invite you to schedule your consultation today.

How is VASER® liposuction different from conventional liposuction?

The purpose of all forms of liposuction is to remove isolated deposits of fatty tissues from the body via a thin suction device called a cannula. While not a weight-loss treatment per se, liposuction is often ideal for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight but find themselves left with lingering pockets of fat that remain resistant to diet and exercise. It is also frequently recommended to patients who are at or near their ideal weights but who simply cannot tone certain areas of their bodies, despite their healthy diet and exercise regimens.

For years, conventional liposuction has proven extremely effective, especially when combined with the tumescent method, in which a saline solution mixed with a powerful local anesthetic is injected into the treatment site prior to fat removal. Using this method, the plastic surgeon uses the cannula to break up the fat cells by moving it back and forth through the incision site, after which the cells are suctioned out.

The VASER® system uses gentle high-frequency ultrasound vibrations to break apart the fat cells. These sound waves carefully target only the fat cells, minimizing trauma to surrounding healthy tissues and allowing Dr. Lerman to work through the smallest possible incisions. The ultrasound vibrations cause the fat cells to liquefy and combine with the tumescent mixture of saline and anesthetic. A thin cannula is then inserted into the treatment area and used to suction out the liquid, with the fat cells permanently being removed from beneath the skin.

Liposuction performed using the VASER® system tends to produce smoother results with shorter, more comfortable recovery times. Dr. Lerman is able to target fat cells with greater precision using the VASER® system, making it a potentially ideal solution to accumulated deposits of fat nearly anywhere on the body, but especially on such areas as the:

  • Neck
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Knees
  • Flanks, or “love handles”
  • Chin
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Buttocks
