Eliminate Stubborn Fat Deposits with Liposuction

Many people complain of stubborn fat deposits that don't ever seem to go away despite exercise and a healthy diet. It can sometimes be difficult to achieve your desired contour in key areas like the abdomen, hips, thighs, or other areas. With liposuction and body sculpting techniques, Manhattan cosmetic surgeon Dr. Oren Lerman can help you achieve leaner body contours.

This surgical method of removing fat deposits can complement a healthy lifestyle by adding attractive definition to your body lines. Contact our office today to learn more about how liposuction can enhance your appearance and your confidence.

The Consultation

The first step in your liposuction treatment is a consultation with Dr. Lerman. At this time, you will discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, treatment options, and candidacy for liposuction. In general, candidates should be in good health, and within 20 pounds of their ideal body weight. Patients should bear in mind that liposuction is not a weight loss solution. Instead, it can provide an attractive aesthetic complement to a healthy lifestyle. Following surgery, the scale may not show a dramatic change, but patients can enjoy leaner body contours and boosted self-esteem. During your consultation, Dr. Lerman will also review the risks and benefits of liposuction, as well as projected recovery times.

Liposuction is a surgery that reduces fat deposits, especially stubborn ones that will not go away through diet and exercise. Liposuction is a relatively simple surgical procedure that is not intended as a weight loss surgery, rather as a body sculpting method. Dr. Lerman offers a variety of liposuction methods to help contour your body, including the innovative ultrasound liposuction.

The Procedure

Surgery begins with an anesthetic to maintain your comfort. Next, a tiny incision is made at the treatment site. A thin, tubular device called a cannula will be inserted through the incision. Using a gentle back and forth motion, the cannula will break up the fat cells and suction them away. Once the desired amount of fat has been removed, a suture is used to close the cannula site.

Liposuction can be performed as a stand-alone procedure, or in combination with other treatments for enhanced outcomes. When combined with breast augmentationbreast lift, or tummy tuck, liposuction is often the finishing touch that provides stunning overall results.

Newer liposuction techniques sometimes use an energy source to help break up the fat and  tighten the overlying skin. These laser or ultrasound assisted liposuction techniques help the skin recontour to the new and improved shape of your body. Dr. Lerman offers his patients Vaser® Liposuction for those stubborn areas where traditional liposuction alone may not be adequate.

Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis, with recovery taking place in the comfort of the patient’s home. Patients should expect to wear bandages, tape, and possibly a support garment to reduce swelling and bruising. Within a few days, patients can return to work and limited daily activities, although bruising usually lasts longer. The duration of your recovery will depend on the extent of your liposuction, and whether other cosmetic procedures were performed.

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks associated with liposuction. These include infection, an uneven skin surface, or fluid imbalance. The risk of complications can be significantly reduced when the procedure is performed by a skilled surgeon, board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in an accredited facility. One of the most important steps in your liposuction experience is choosing a reputable surgeon who has helped others achieve satisfying long-term results.

For the right patient, liposuction can help you achieve the body contour you've always wanted so that clothing fit better, you look and feel more comfortable in your bathing suit and your self confidence is improved. Ultimately, choosing to have liposuction or body contouring surgery is about helping you achieve the goals that you might otherwise have be unable to reach with diet and exercise alone.
