Rejuvenate Your Appearance with Face Lift Surgery
Growing older is inevitable, and the face is usually the first part of the body to exhibit signs of aging. Although we can’t stop time or reverse the aging process, modern plastic surgery procedures have helped many patients reduce the signs of aging.
Face lift, a surgical procedure offered by by Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. Oren Lerman, removes excess skin and tightens the tissues underneath to improve wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of aging. Also referred to as a rhytidectomy, a face lift focuses on the lower third of the face, and is often combined with additional cosmetic procedures to address the patient’s forehead, eyebrows, and other facial features simultaneously. Face Lift
An In-depth Look at the Aging Process
Our skin goes through many changes as we grow older. Cells begin to divide more slowly, skin becomes thinner, and the proteins that control the skin’s elasticity and tautness (elastin and collagen) begin to break down. This causes skin to loosen and sag with the force of gravity. The underlying muscle and tissue structure changes, as well, causing wrinkles and deep lines to form.
The Face Lift Procedure
To determine your eligibility for a face lift, you will first need to undergo a physical examination and pre-operative consultation to review your medical history. During your examination, Dr. Lerman will assess your facial bone structure, as well as underlying skin structure, thickness, texture, and elasticity. The face lift procedure differs for each patient, and various face lift techniques can be employed depending on your condition and unique aesthetic goals.
Face lift surgery is typically performed in our office under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Lerman will make very small incisions in front of and behind the ears, allowing access to various layers of tissue. These tissues are manipulated to smooth out ( or “lift”) the skin for a more youthful appearance. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat in the neck and jowls, and muscle tightening may be performed for improved contouring.
For even more comprehensive results, Dr. Lerman may recommend a face lift in conjunction with one or more procedures, such as rhinoplasty to refine the nose, or blepharoplasty to rejuvenate skin around the eyes.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Most patients who are unhappy with their facial appearance may qualify for a face lift, though the procedure works best for patients whose skin still possesses some elasticity. If you have certain medical conditions, including issues with blood clotting or uncontrolled high blood pressure, it is important you consult with your primary physician before seriously considering a face lift.
